Q: Hi,
I am considering verisyse eye surgery since my vision is about -10.00. Can you tell me anything with regard to the safefy of this procedure compared to lasik. Also, is there discomfort during and after the procedure.
Thanks,
William

A: The safety profile is different for Verisyse than for laser vision correction. Whereas most of the problems with laser vision correction would occur during or shortly after the procedure, the Verisyse patient might experience cataracts or problems with the endothelium several years later.
These percentages, however, are very small.

Q: Hello, What is life expectancy of a good sight after the procedure? Are there any reapet surgeries in the future or it is a one time deal?
i am nearsighted at 8.5 , I am 43 years old, some asstigmatism.
will i need reading glasses, what should i expect?
Thank you very much.
Stella

A: Most people will maintain their distance correction for most of their lives. Approximately 5 of the patients will have a change in their distance vision and could have further treatment in the future.

Lasik is not correcting the near vision, so unless you have monovision treatment, then you will need reading glasses when you get older.

Q: what is EPI-K Laser surgeory ?
Is this a latest in LASIK ? Pl.adv.

Thank You,

Kailesh Bavishi

A: Epi-Lasik is a different way of performing PRK (Advanced Surface Treatment). The big negative with Epi-Lasik or any form of surface treatment is that the healing period is much longer and there is considerably more pain.

Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF EYE EXERCISES(BATES METHOD/SEECLEARLY/EYE EXERCISE SESSIONS WITH A SPECIALIST) AND DO THEY WORK AS AN ALT.?

A: Unfortuantely, there is no scientific evidence that the Bates method works. It has certainly been tested.

Q: In the Southern California area (LA to San Diego), if you had to choose 3 facilities/sergeons to have LASIK performed on your eyes, which would they be reguardless of cost? Thanks.
-Brandon

A: It is not appropriate for me to comment on that.

Q: Is there any procedure that does not involve the cut of the flap? Is there a precedure that involves the flap to stay on for the time of the corrective eye surgery?

A: Advanced Surface Treatment, also known as PRK, Lasek, and Epi-Lasik, does not involve a flap.

Q: Are Intacs be the best choice for someone who had Radial Keratotomy 20 years ago? Thanks.

A: No, I do not think that Intacs are the best choice, at least in most situations. Lasik or PRK is usually a better choice.

Q: I had laser surgery in 2000 because I was nearsighted. Now I am 46 and am having a horrid time reading small print and have difficulty reading in dim light. Is a second procedure available so that I can avoid reading glasses?

A: You can have a laser treatment, or have conductive keratoplasty (CK) to create monovision.
