Hi, A:
It is not appropriate for me to answer this type of question on this website. Email:
December 06, 2005 Q:
I am near sighted and would like to have Lasik Eye Surgery done. However at
my consultation today, the doctor expressed concerns that he thinks I might
have Keratoconus in my one eye. He explained the risks for having the Lasik
surgery done if I do have this condition, but said I still can get it done if
I'd like. Can you give me any advice or your thoughts on what you would do?
Thank you, Kate Patton A:
I would get a second opinion from a reputable lasik surgeon. If you have keratoconus,
then you do not want to have the procedure, because that can result in unpredictable
results. Email:

I am just starting to research LASIK surgery and believe I would be a good candidate
(eyes at -2.75 and -2.50, no dry eye other than with contacts and extensive
computer work or dry climate conditions, etc.). However, I noticed that you
recommended that someone who boxes should not have LASIK. I am a scuba diver.
Would the occasional salt water in the eye, being at depth, or pressure on the
eyes be a problem after surgery? Thank you A:
Scuba diving is not a problem for Lasik. Boxers should have the Lasik without
the flap (PRK). Email:

I have rumathoid arthritis and my arthritis specialist (doctor) said that it
is affecting my eyes.....My eyes get red, pain ,pinch, and it has affected the
vision in one eye. My eye doctor said after a 1 hour exam, several tests and
interview that I have no disease,no illness,no reason he can relate to my problem..
Can a Lasik surgeon HELP ME !!! PLEASE ADVISE
A:
Rheumatoid arthritis patients will often have problems with the eyes. They should
avoid Lasik unless their condition is very mild and very much under control. Email:
December 14, 2005 Q:
Is it possible to have Lasik performed 3 times if your cornea A:
There is no problem with having these repeat Lasik treatments, in the rare event
that they are needed, if the cornea is thick enough. Of course, there is the small risk of infection, or folds in the flap, every time that
you lift it. Email:
December 16, 2005 Q:
Is 11 days enough time to go without wearing my soft contacts - they are not
extended wear, before the actual lasik surgery? The doctor told me 11 days is
enough. A:
Usually that is enough. In rare cases longer may be necessary. Email:
December 19, 2005 Q:
If you saw 20/200 in one eye and 20/70 in the other would you see about 20/60
with both eyes? Do you usually see better using both eyes? A:
You usually see a little better with both eyes than with each eye separately. Email:
December 22, 2005 Q:
hi, i am currently 18 years of age and am interested in getting laser eye surgery
because i demise glasses which i am forced to wear at work. my question is how
safe is it to get laser eye surgery if my eyes are not exactly stable? I think
in the last year and a half my eyes worsened by .25... both my eyes are the
same 3.00 and 3.00. They use to get worse by .25 every year but are slowing
down now.. my other question is what is the recovery time because i actually
work at syncrude canada (big oil production plant in canada) (plus I am a dilivery
driver, not welder or electrician or anything), but the thing is that the air
is quite dirty there.. if I wear safetly glasses constantly how long would it
take for my eyes to become safe again (without safety glasses)? A:
Laser eye surgery will not stop your eyes from changing. If they are changing,
you may need an enhancement at some time in the future. More Lasik Email Questions Pages |
